Providing life saving assistance to LGBTQ refugees in the Middle East
The Aman Project is a refugee and trans-led LGBTQ-focused support and advocacy project based in Turkey.
Our mission is to defend and validate LGBTQ lives and have a transformative impact on the lives of LGBTQ refugees by offering support, advice, and safe routes in a variety of languages.
Join Our Community
We’re a group of refugees, LGBTQ people, and allies standing in solidarity with those who have had to flee their home countries for their identity.
Over the past three years, we’ve helped over 300 LGBTQ individuals through emergency rental and utility assistance and case management services across the Middle East.

Our History
Since 2017 and up until 2019, the Aman shelter provided a home, a community, and training to some of Turkey’s most vulnerable refugees, homeless LGBTQ+ individuals, get back on their feet.
Today the Aman Project works on advocating for LGBTQ rights and refugees in the MENA region through providing direct emergency assistance for rent, food and medicine to vulnerable individuals in Turkey, where the project is based. The project also provides assistance with applying for asylum in third countries.
At the same time, we work to address the root of the problem. We collaborate with journalists and utilize social media to raise awareness on LGBTQ+ issues in the region in the hope of normalizing and promoting acceptance of LGBTQ+ refugees in their home countries. The Aman Project is also currently working on a documentary that would allow LGBTQ refugees to tell their stories and raise awareness about their unique struggles.
